Gaillac

In the heart of the vineyards to which it gave its name, Gaillac is curled in a bend of the river Tarn. Over the course of the centuries, it has enjoyed an influence justified by its position on the river, very favourable for commerce, and its thousand years of wine production. Gaillac’s heritage is brick, which is everywhere: in narrow streets, squares, modest half-timbered houses or vast manors and rich private houses. Gaillac is classed among the most beautiful places in France to visit.

The Abbey of Saint Michel

This huge building was completely rebuilt in brick at the end of the 13th century, like all the great monuments of the region at that time. The Abbey church of Saint Michel is a good example of those southern French buildings which make the transition between Romanesque and Gothic art (the Cathedral of St. Cécile of Albi) and where the impression of power is accentuated by the presence of a clock tower on the main façade.

The interior of the abbey is also very rich, with magnificent architectural details especially at the level of the capitals – beautiful decorations of flowers and plants –
